The challenge\u2014and the opportunity\u2014was ensuring every campaign felt aligned with the larger KU Athletics brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Launching Rock Chalk Weekly: KU Athletics\u2019 First Digital Magazine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the projects I\u2019m most proud of was leading the <strong>concept, design, and execution of Rock Chalk Weekly<\/strong>, the first digital magazine created for KU Athletics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project began with a simple idea:<br>create a storytelling platform that allowed fans and donors to go deeper than scores and highlights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the initial concept to final launch, I worked across departments to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>develop the editorial vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>design the digital experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>coordinate internal approvals<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>navigate the technical requirements for a mobile-app supported publication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Launching the platform required collaboration across multiple teams and a strong internal champion network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the result was worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rock Chalk Weekly became more than a publication\u2014it became a storytelling platform that highlighted the people behind Kansas Athletics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It helped connect fans, alumni, and donors to the real stories of the athletes, coaches, and programs they supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And it reinforced something I learned quickly while working in college athletics:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>People don\u2019t just support teams.<br>They support stories.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building Structure in a Fast-Moving Creative Environment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Another key part of my role was bringing structure to a <strong>high-volume creative environment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With dozens of campaigns, multiple sports seasons, and constant marketing requests, the creative team needed systems that allowed us to move quickly without sacrificing quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I helped implement <strong>project management tools and creative workflows<\/strong> that allowed the team to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>track incoming requests<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>prioritize high-impact projects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>maintain brand consistency across departments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve collaboration between marketing, communications, and development teams<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These systems helped our team deliver creative work faster while keeping everyone aligned\u2014even when priorities changed daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images <strong>emotional connection<\/strong> people have to their teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fans and donors care deeply about their programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every visual, campaign, and message has the potential to strengthen that connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That means creative work in athletics isn\u2019t just about design\u2014it\u2019s about <strong>trust, loyalty, and community identity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s also why storytelling plays such a powerful role in sports marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When done well, storytelling:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>deepens fan engagement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>strengthens donor relationships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>builds long-term program loyalty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reinforces institutional pride<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These lessons continue to influence the way I approach design and strategy today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Lesson I Carry Forward<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest takeaway from my time at KU Athletics is simple:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Great design is never just about aesthetics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>clarity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>alignment<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>storytelling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and human connection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When organizations communicate who they are and why they matter, people respond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bringing That Experience
